Spring Term Letter February 2025

By 26 February 2025No Comments

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to a new half term and one which will see Year 11 move into the final stages of their preparation for their GCSEs.  Over the half term break, many students were in school, attending revision sessions or coursework catchup. Hard work and dedication always lead to success at Sharples and there will be many more opportunities to step up over the coming weeks.

Next week is World Book Week at Sharples and there are lots of events and activities for students to take part in to celebrate the importance of reading and literacy. The theme this year is Harry Potter. On Thursday, all lessons will be adapted to incorporate book-related content whilst on Friday 7th March, we will be hosting a Great Book Bake Off; students can create an edible creation based on a book they have read with the chance of winning a multitude of prizes.

This is followed by STEM Week from 10th-14th March when the theme is “Change and Adapt”. There will be learning activities across the school based on this theme during lessons this week and we will be hosting “The Food Showdown” once again on Friday with chefs competing with each other live for the most student votes.

On the 1st March, many families of Year 6 pupils will find out if their application to Sharples has been successful. Having received over 800 applications this year, a record once again, we are looking forward to hosting our upcoming Year 7 pupils at our transition events, which begin later this half term.

I would like to invite all parents to attend our next Parent Forum, on Wednesday 12th March from 14.15-15.15. The topics to be discussed are extracurricular opportunities, and an update on our school uniform.  The event will take place in our school library and refreshments will be provided. We want to hear your views, so that we can improve our school going forward. For more information, please view the flyer which is available by clicking here.

Finally, I would like to add that we see a very strong correlation between attendance that is above 97%, and achieving well in formal examinations at Sharples. This means that a student should not have more than 5 days off school in an academic year and should aim for 100% attendance if possible.

Yours sincerely

Ms C Molyneux
