Dear Parent/Carer,

It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself and welcome you to our school website. My name is Caroline Molyneux and I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Sharples School.  I have been at Sharples School for over ten years now, and it is a privilege to be given the opportunity to lead the school through its next chapter.

In 2024-25 the school celebrates its 50th anniversary, and as we look back over the successes that the school has enjoyed, it is clear that Sharples is a school that is rooted in its community and has a history of supporting its students to achieve their potential.

Our school motto is ‘Learn Dream Achieve’ and it is an ethos that runs through everything we do.  We encourage all students to work hard and to aim high in order to achieve academic success and fulfil their dreams for a rewarding future career.

Our main aim is to provide first class learning and teaching opportunities every single day to ensure that all of our students make significant progress from their individual starting points.

High Expectations

At Sharples, we demonstrate a daily commitment to our ‘high expectations and no excuses’ culture as we prepare our young people for the challenges of a rapidly changing world. We promote the values of resilience and hard work which has ensured that standards have risen and continue to rise every year. We will make no apologies for maintaining those expectations.

We recognise that students have different abilities, needs and interests and we provide a broad and ambitious curriculum both inside and outside of the classroom which is continually reviewed. We offer a wide range of GCSE choices including Engineering, Astronomy, Computer Science, Photography, separate sciences, and many more, plus a wide range of enrichment activities from Literary Society to the “Sharples Arrows” Darts Club.  At Sharples, there is something for everyone.

The Sharples Family

Sharples School is a caring community that caters for students regardless of background, gender or beliefs. Through our Sharples Values of ‘Community, Co-operation, Consideration and Common sense’ we aim to engender tolerance and respect for self and others, so that students leave us well equipped to play a positive and constructive role in society. The diversity across our school is a real strength and is something we celebrate.

All students are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and conduct. Discipline in the school is firm and fair to ensure an orderly and effective learning atmosphere. In return we expect high standards of work, behaviour and uniform. We take pride in the positive partnership we have with parents and carers. We believe that by home and school working together we can provide the very best opportunities for all our students and bring out the best in your child, both academically and socially.

Finally, I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit our website and read more about our school.
