GCSE Astronomy
This week, our GCSE Astronomy students were braving the cold to take advantage of a break in the cloud cover to compare the use of sundials and shadow sticks. By measuring the length and angle of the shadow cast by the metre stick over time, the local time and longitude can be determined.
Astronomy Club
Meanwhile, over in the lunchtime Astronomy club, our Year 7 astronomers were also taking advantage of the clear skies to observe the motion of sunspots across the solar surface, as well as the atmosphere above, the solar corona or ‘crown’.
