Dear Parent/Carer,
As we approach the February half term, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the hard work and achievements of our students and staff so far this term.
It has been a busy start to 2025, and one which has already seen huge successes for our school community.
Our students have engaged with the wide range of opportunities presented to them, including the two Year 7 Sleep at the Deep trips, Year 10 Work Experience, a West End weekend away in London to see The Lion King and the trip to Seville which returned just yesterday after 5 fantastic days working with our partner school there.
Congratulations are due to our students for their sporting achievements, with our Year 8 Panathlon Team taking home medals in both the Boccia and Kurling tournaments and students enjoying the women’s Manchester derby at the Etihad. These are just a snapshot of some of the many activities that our students have engaged with over the past 6 weeks and I encourage families to look on our social media channel to find out more.
Year 9 and Year 11 have completed their recent examinations with drive and resilience and we are very encouraged by their diligence in preparing for their assessments. After the half term break the pace, but also the support will increase for our Year 11 students as we move towards their GCSE’s.
Finally, I would like to highlight the many activities which celebrate our diverse community here at Sharples. Earlier this term saw students across the school enjoying “Chinese New Year”, with the tradition of the Sharples Dragon making its way around the school to distribute treats.
At the end of the month, many of our families will begin their observance of Ramadan and we are supporting our students to continue with their normal studies at school through provision of quiet spaces at lunchtime and PE will deliver orienteering to students. We also have our annual Sharples Family Iftar. We are also planning our Easter Sharples Family Meals for Y8 which will take place at the end of term.
We look forward to welcoming all students back after the break on Monday, 24 February at 8.45am
Wishing you all a restful and enjoyable half term.
Yours sincerely
Ms C Molyneux
