Start of Summer Term 2 Letter

Dear Parent/Carer,

The final half term of the year is now underway and it is already shaping up to be a very busy one at Sharples.

Year 11 students are coming to the end of their Sharples journey and as we look back on their time with us, I can honestly say that they have made the school and indeed their families proud. The hard work that has gone into their GCSE exams will undoubtedly see deserved outcomes in August, but the achievements of the year group go well beyond just academic success. From sporting excellence to charity fundraising, leadership prowess and just being great role models for our young pupils, the Year 11 students will be missed. We will bid them farewell next week, with a look through the memory archives and a trip to Alton Towers. I am sure you will join me in wishing them every success for the future and hope that they will always have fond memories of their time with us. Sharples Forever.

Next Wednesday 17th June is National Thank a Teacher Day and at Sharples we celebrate the hard work of every single staff member who makes a difference to the lives of our young people every day. From the site team opening school on weekends and in the holidays to facilitate revision sessions, to staff from across the school giving up their evenings, weekends and holidays to take students on trips that provide amazing experiences for our young people, we know that going above and beyond is part of being a member of Team Sharples. Students will be invited to write cards to say thank you to the staff, and if you would like to join me in thanking our staff team, please email your messages to office@sharplesschool.co.uk and we will ensure that they are delivered next Wednesday.

June is “The Month of Reading” at Sharples and all students are encouraged to pick up a book and enjoy reading over the next few weeks. The Sharples Library will be holding a number of events to whet the appetite for reading and in form time, students will be engaging with reading challenges.  We have a well-stocked library at Sharples, and all pupils are able to bring books home to read at their leisure. We ask parents to encourage reading for pleasure with your child, as it can boost academic outcomes and has a positive effect on mental wellbeing.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to some important dates for your diary in the coming weeks:

  • Year 8 Progress Evening – Thursday 25th June 4-7pm
  • Year 7 Progress Evening – Thursday 8th July 4-7pm
  • Sharples Summer Fayre – 3.15-5.30pm
  • Academic Achievement Awards Ceremonies for Y7-10 – mornings of Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th July – Live via Zoom for families.

Thank you for your continued support.

Yours sincerely

Ms C Molyneux
