The STEM singers were wonderful when they performed at staff briefing on Monday morning, kicking off STEM week in style. They were present at each assembly throughout the week and received many compliments after performing to each year group.
The Creepy Crawly Roadshow was very popular with our pupils and the local primary schools who had been invited for the event. One of the funniest mini beasts we were introduced to was ‘Kellogg the Corn Snake’! If the pupils were brave enough, they could hold one of the creatures and even wear a snake like a scarf!
A huge thank you to Mrs Farnworth who took two of our pupils, Aaron Patterson and Annalise Heald, to the Junior Apprentice Competition at Warburtons Bakery where they came in first place.
Tuesday saw the Year 7 and 8 Maths Fest which included puzzle solving and the design element of bridge building. After all their hard work, Carrs Pi pies were definitely a welcome treat for everyone!
The Food Technology department hosted the “Aldi Taste Challenge” and @AldiUK even tweeted us about it. Technology reported that 90% of pupils can’t tell the difference between Lidl’s Cola and Coca Cola!
The Computing and IT department hosted a Computational Thinking Competition which involved solving puzzles using logical thinking.
Wednesday’s main event was the Star Party. Approximately 150 people joined us at the Singadia Observatory and they weren’t disappointed. We saw the moon, the Orion Nebula, lots of constellations and even Jupiter with two of its moons.
On Thursday the Year 7s took part in the ‘Science of Inventions’ competition which saw some fantastic work, all of which was displayed in the library for all to admire.
