Year 3 pupils from The Oaks Primary School visited Sharples this week to use our observatory facilities to view the Sun! Our solar filter and solar scopes allowed the pupils to see sunspots and even solar flares with the help of our observatory’s telescope.
When in the lab, the group learned about the phases of the moon using Oreo cookies! It was a delicious lesson!
Please do not worry: the binoculars were not used for any direct viewing of the Sun, only the solar scopes were.
