Junior Leadership Team
Our JLT is made up of the Senior Gold Ties (Head boy and girl and their deputies), a representative from each group of the SAC which changes termly, the lead for the Sharples Radio, and the editor of the Sharples Spotlight.
The team meet weekly on Fridays for a breakfast meeting with the Headteacher. Upcoming events are discussed and organised including Year 7 transitions events, charity events and more.
The team also gives feedback to the Headteacher with issues and ideas that can be addressed.
Student Leaders – The Gold Ties
In June of Year 10, students are given the opportunity to apply for a Gold Tie. Applications are made to the headteacher, with successful applications going through to the interview stage of the process.
In 2025, we had over 100 applications, with 40 gold ties selected in the first round. Subsequent rounds are held in July, October and December each year.
The Gold Ties are role models for younger students and leaders in the school They can out duties to support orderly breaks and lunchtimes and support the school with events.
It is a great opportunity for students to add to their CV whilst building their own confidence for working with others.
Student Affairs Committee
Our Student Affairs Committee (SAC) here at Sharples School are elected representatives who represent their year group to bring their ideas and feedback to the school.
The SAC students meet regularly with the Headteacher and are organised by Miss Curzon.
We aim to make a positive impact and push for changes that support every child throughout their time at our school. The SAC is a group of students that have been elected to represent each year group at Sharples, we currently have over 40 members that meet regularly to discuss aspects of a student’s experience at Sharples. Members regularly ask peers for any feedback or suggestions which they would like to be discussed at our meetings. The Committee promotes skills development such as Confidence, Leadership, Debating & Problem Solving.
Each of our members are easily recognisable due to their Purple Ties that are handed to them after elections. Recently the SAC have worked with outside organisations such as Bolton Youth Council & have interviewed the current leader of the Labour Party, Sir Keir Starmer filmed by CBBC’s Newsround. Click here to view the interview (Newsround – Sir Keir Starmer Interview).
We aim to hold elections each year for new members. . If you would like to speak to someone about The Student Affairs Committee, please see a Purple Tie or Miss Curzon directly.
We are immensely proud of the SAC and the fantastic work they do each term to ensure that Sharples School provides the best learning environment that a student could ask for.
You can view our dedicated Twitter account (@SharplesSAC) for updates on the great work the committee has done. You can also click here to access our termly SAC newsletter.
