Sufiya Ahmed

Top-selling author Sufiya Ahmed visited us on Thursday 5th December to talk with pupils about her life as a writer. Sufiya, who lived in Bolton for many years before moving to London, revealed that her childhood heroes were Enid Blyton and Roald Dahl and that it was these early influences that inspired her to become an author herself.  Sufiya worked in advertising and in the House of Commons before turning to writing as a full-time occupation, first with the Zhara series of books and, more recently, the award winning Secrets of the Henna Girl. In 2010 Sufiya set up the BIBI Foundation, a non-profit organisation that arranges visits to the Houses of Parliament for underprivileged school children.
