World Space Week – Part 1

This week was World Space Week and the Science team prepared a menu of enrichment activities for our students to celebrate. The theme this year was Women in Space, so we were particularly proud to deliver a female led programme. Please click the link for more information: https://www.worldspaceweek.org/

Monday

IMAX movie screening of Hubble 3D in our cinema room at lunchtime (including a very well received free bag of crisps!). Narrated by Leonardo DiCaprio, in May 2009, the crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis launched a mission to make vital repairs and upgrades to the Hubble Space Telescope, the world’s first space-based optical telescope.

Tuesday

Year 7 Star Wars Club with Miss Fairhurst at lunchtime were making lightsabers out of recyclables, as well as celebrating the release of the new mini-series ‘Visions’ on Disney+

Wednesday

Year 7 Science STEM Club with Miss Dudley at lunchtime were painting planets, stars and moons with colourful ‘fizzy paint’. If you would like to follow the steps of our students below and try this at home, click the link for some easy to follow instructions: https://www.science-sparks.com/fizzy-paint/

Below are some of the fantastic finished products!

Thursday

However, it was not all about Space this week, with Monday being World Animal Day. To celebrate, Miss Booth and the Animal Care team put on another IMAX movie screening of Ocean Wonderland 3D.

Narrated by Jean-Michel Cousteau, taking students on a stunning visual and sensorial diving adventure beneath the waves to the pulsating heart of the oceans: the coral reefs. Please click the link for more information: https://www.worldanimalday.org.uk/
