Primary Astronomy

On Tuesday this week, our GCSE Astronomy Ambassadors did an absolutely amazing job delivering fun astronomy activities to St Paul’s reception, including telling the stories behind the constellations (top picture in the below set), how-to-use binoculars (third picture below) and playing “pin the star on the constellation” (bottom picture) as well as talking to them about their favourite aspects of astronomy and being at Sharples.

LGBT+ History Month

This month is LGBT+ History Month and the Science team is running a creative bunting competition for our younger students to celebrate the contributions of LGBT+ Scientists throughout history. If you are in Years 7 or 8, speak to your Science teacher for an entry form. The deadline for entries is Friday 25th February, prizes to be announced after half-term! Please click the link for more information about LGBT+ History Month: https://lgbtplushistorymonth.co.uk/

Our older students will be celebrating with a screening of ‘The Imitation Game’, the Alan Turing biopic, after school on Wednesday 23rd February. If you are in Years 9, 10 or 11, pick up your free tickets and popcorn from G43 at break or lunch after half-term! Do Try This at Home!

Finally, from all of the Science at Sharples team, we hope you have a great half-term break, and if you are looking for something engaging and educational ‘Do Try This at Home’ is a series of fun Science experiments with short demonstration videos and simple, step-by-step instructions that can be carried out using only household objects: https://www.iop.org/explore-physics/at-home#gref
