School Closure Update

By 5 January 2021June 2nd, 2021No Comments

Dear Parents and Carers

I hope that you and your family are well.

As you will be aware, the Government announced yesterday that a national lockdown will commence today.  As part of this, all schools will be closed until at least February half-term, with an anticipated return date of Monday, 22 February.

Throughout the lockdown period, the school will continue to provide in-school supervision for the children of key workers, vulnerable children and those with EHCP’s, if families require this support.  If you are a critical worker, and you wish your child to access in-school provision from Monday, 4 January, please email: office@sharplesschool.co.uk.  Please title your email ‘Critical Worker Provision’ and indicate your child’s name and form as well as stating your profession.

As I have previously stated, remote lessons for Year 11 students are in place this week.  Whilst the Government have stated that GCSE exams in their usual format will not take place this summer, they have yet to clarify what the assessment method will be.  It is, therefore, vitally important that all Year 11 students continue to engage fully with their remote learning to ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes, in order to secure high-quality post-16 provision.

A full programme of remote lessons will commence for all other year groups (Year 7 to10) on Monday, 11 January.

The majority of remote lessons will be live, via Google Meet and students will follow their normal timetable.  Each day will start at 8.45am with an online registration with form tutors. Teachers will communicate with students through Satchel One (Show My Homework) and through school emails.  Please contact us as soon as possible if your child is unable to access these methods of communication and we will do what we can to support you: office@sharplesschool.co.uk

I would recommend that you have a look at the distance learning section of the school website.  It contains lots of useful information that will help you to manage your child’s remote learning, including the key contacts for each year group. This can be accessed via: https://www.sharplesschool.co.uk/distance-learning/

If your child is entitled to free school meals, we will continue to provide you with supermarket vouchers to cover the lockdown period.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care and stay safe.

Yours faithfully

Ann Webster
