Studies show that children who read for enjoyment every day not only perform better in their GCSEs than those who don’t, but also develop a broader vocabulary, increased general knowledge and a better understanding of other cultures. Pupils at Sharples School should be reading for at least one hour every week and should be bringing a reading book into school every day as part of their basic equipment. In school, we currently have a mobile library that visits each year group once a week so that pupils are able to borrow and return books.
