Some of our students attended the ‘West End Workshop’ last Sunday and spent the day, from 10.00am – 8.30pm, working with industry professionals. Mark Hedges (who is resident Director of Phantom Of The Opera and also the children’s Director on Les Miserables), Jill Farrow (who is the London Pianist for Matilda, Wicked and Les Miserables) and Helen Washington who is also the children’s Musical Director on Les Miserables, and currently working on The King and I UK tour, all provided excellent workshops on interpretation of Musical Theatre songs in a fun and informative way. It was a really positive experience and it gave our students a fantastic opportunity. This opportunity also included working with a live band.
The girls said:
‘The West End Workshop was a brilliant experience for us to improve our skills and meet new people. Spending the day with these theatre professionals helped us to see what it would be like in real life.’
Year 11 students Jesika and Lola have already auditioned and secured a place on the Musical Theatre course at Pendleton College in September. They were given tips and encouragement from the professionals on further developing their stage discipline, skills and techniques. The day ended with an informal presentation of the different musicals they had been working on. There were some fantastic performances!
