Medical Mavericks

On Wednesday morning, pupils in Years 8-11 were invited to take part in a workshop put on by visitors to the school called the Medical Mavericks. Pupils spent time learning about specialist medical equipment and were also given the opportunity to have hands-on experience.  The pupils were shown: how to draw blood from a fake arm using a needle; how to use an ultrasound machine; tried their hand at keyhole surgery and were able to use an electrocardiogram machine to measure their own heart activity. All in all, it was a very positive experience for the 80 pupils involved.
