Pupils in the Year 8 and 9 Maths Stem club were investigating plastic microfibres getting into the ocean this week. They washed synthetic clothing in water, and drained some of the water through a filter paper, then looked at the filter through a microscope. Strands of plastic microfibres had escaped from the clothing and we discussed the impact this might have on marine life and humans. We also talked about the magnification of the images.
