League Decider

By 16 February 2023No Comments

On Tuesday evening, our KS4 football team (pictured) faced Westhoughton in a game that would decide the winners of the league. With both teams undefeated all season and our last encounter ending in a 5-5 draw, both schools decided to take part in a playoff to see who would come away with the top spot. After a nervous start from Sharples, Westhoughton were quick off the mark, scoring 2 goals in the first 15 minutes. It was looking like we were heading into half time without scoring, however, a brilliant solo run from Grace G ensured we headed into the break 3-1 down. After a quick start in the second half, the girls managed to pull a goal back before Westhoughton scored their fourth of the night. With 5 minutes left, Sharples scored again through a great strike from Fatima U which ensured an edge of the seat finish! In the dying seconds, Izzy F put in a fantastic cross which was heading in the direction of Fatima U and in full stretch, Fatima was just inches away from equalising. This proved to be the final kick of the game and the match finished 4-3 to Westhoughton meaning we finished runners up of our league. An agonising finish but a brilliant achievement nonetheless. Well done, girls!
