International School News Update

By 16 July 2019June 2nd, 2021No Comments

This weekend, we learned of some more exciting news in relation to our International work.

Earlier this term we applied, as part of a cluster of schools from the North West, for funding from Connecting Classrooms for an International Project on one of the Global Goals with a school in South Africa. We are delighted to let you know that we have been successful in our application. Sharples is also the only high school involved in the project which shows our commitment to providing opportunities to our pupils above and beyond the ‘norm’.

The project will take place in classrooms during the next academic year and will focus on gender equality. The project also includes teacher visits (to the schools involved) to share best practice and – hopefully – will lead to a pupil visit in the future.

In addition to this, we learned on Monday that we have been successful in securing 2 staff places on a British Council seminar in China this November. The seminar will allow us to find a partner school in China which we will apply for £15,000 of funding to take around 12 of our pupils to visit in the spring or summer term. It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity!

This funding is in addition to the 3 Erasmus+ projects for staff CPD and pupil exchanges totalling 150,000€ which the school are currently running. With more applications in the pipeline, this is a very exciting time for all at Sharples, and will certainly create invaluable opportunities for our pupils as they progress beyond our school in this ever changing global market and workplace.
