Football Round up

By 1 October 2021No Comments

Year 7 (pictured above) had their first game of the season this week against ESSA Academy. The weather was poor, to say the least, but that didn’t phase our boys! Dan Wright started the show with 3 goals in the first half and Amaan Babariya got the fourth just before half time. The lads carried this great start into the second half with 3 more goals and Ahmed Mitha scoring the goal of the game with a screamer from 20 yards out firing into the top right corner. Overall, it was a fantastic opening performance to what will hopefully be a great season for the team.

The Year 8 football team got their first competitive season underway on Wednesday as they fell to defeat against ESSA. The scoreline did not reflect the performance from both sides, especially considering this was the first school fixture for this team since starting Sharples.

There was lots of good play throughout the game but unfortunately the damage had already been done before half time.

It was very encouraging to see the work rate and desire of the team to not give up and fight to the final whistle. The Year 8s will return to action next week hoping to build on the performance and aim to be on the winning side of the scoreline.

Year 9 (pictured above) started the season off in emphatic fashion with a convincing 7-3 victory over ESSA Academy. Sharples started the game on the front foot and found themselves 5 goals up before half time. Harvey Hampson scored 2 lovely chips and then finished off his hat trick with a Panenka penalty. Sam Johnston also scored his first hat trick of the season, with the opposition struggling to deal with his pace and power. Joshua Marsh was superb in midfield, as were the rest of the team in what was a very dominant performance.

Year 10 had a very difficult first encounter against a strong ESSA team in terrible conditions. The team showed great resilience and battled hard but unfortunately ESSA came out on top. The horrendous conditions were brightened by a great goal from Noah Dawson.
