STEM Club Blast-Off

By 23 September 2021No Comments

The Year 8 and 9 STEM club were building and testing balloon rockets this week. The pupils measured the length and time of each balloon’s journey and calculated the speed of their rocket. They then considered how to increase the speed by looking at factors such as friction, air-resistance and the size and orientation of the balloon. Hatim Kapasi recorded the fastest speed at 12.857 km/h! The activity was a good example of Newton’s 3rd law – when two objects interact, they exert equal and opposite forces on each other.
