Last week, twenty Sharples' Year 8 students and three teachers embarked on a truly Spanish adventure. After a smooth journey by plane to Madrid, we checked into the Hostal Marlasca and had our first try at a three course Spanish meal in a local restaurant. It was early to bed as the next day we were extremely busy travelling to different attractions on the Madrid Metro.
First stop on our tour was the awesome Bernabeu Stadium (home of Real Madrid) where we were treated to the full tour and learnt about many football legends. We then travelled by bus to the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch and some shopping, followed by a brisk walk to the Prado Museum to see some impressive Goya paintings.
After our evening meal, we made a trip to the Madrid Ice bar where we danced to keep warm and drank fruit ‘mocktails’. Day two was an informative trip to the famous Bullring Las Ventas, lunch at a local restaurant, a visit to the Royal Palace and the Plaza Mayor and a Flamenco show in the evening to see how the professionals dance (see picture). Our final morning was a Flamenco lesson where we impressed the local teachers with our enthusiasm and dancing talents.
Sharples pupils were complimented on their behaviour and enthusiasm to speak Spanish. Hopefully this will be the first of many trips to Spain for them.
