It was the Year 8s’ turn to compete in the Bolton Schools futsal tournament this week. A selection of students from the football team (pictured) travelled a short distance to Smithills School to compete against the best in the borough.

Sharples were drawn against Thornleigh, Canon Salde and Essa Academy. All games were very competitive and Sharples managed to record a win, draw and were narrowly defeated in their last game to Canon Slade. As a result, Sharples qualified for the 3rd and 4th place play off but were edged out of 3rd place, narrowly losing to Thornleigh. Ashton Regan was a constant threat throughout and Muhammad Bagasi deserves a special mention for his fantatsic goal keeping display. The Sharples PE department have organised another futsal tournament next week, the Year 9 team will be hoping for 1st place after their recent displays.

The Year 9 football team secured another 3 points in the Bolton League this week with a dominant performance (4 – 0 victory) against Essa Academy. The team continue to go from strength to strength and were solid in defence, creative in midfield and the front 3 of Selim Simsek, Muhammed Patel and Mohamed Suliman are a real handful for any team. Liam Worswick added to his tally for the season with 2 more set piece goals and Selim and Muhammed both scored superb individual goals.

Unfortunately, the girls netball match and Year 7 football game was cancelled, both fixtures will be played next Thursday at Sharples.

Sharples received the results from the recent Bolton Cross Country Championship this week and a number of students have qualified to represent the Town in the Greater Manchester race. Well done to Jayden Winstanley, Leah Winstanley, Harvey Kenny, Liam Worswick and Cole Bridge and we wish them luck in their next race.
