SHARPLES School has unveiled its new badge to mark its most successful year.

The school is the best performing community school in Bolton, based on its GCSE results last summer.

Staff and pupils were asked about the new look, which still incorporates elements of the existing badge and the history behind it and now bears the school motto “preparing for success”.

Headteacher Rachel Quesnel said: “The decision to refresh the Sharples School emblem has come about through discussions with pupils and staff, many of whom felt that it would benefit from some colour, and that it was ‘time for a change’.

“It was, however, important to us that the new badge retained some of the historical features of the current one, but also represents a fresh look to the future, one which we hope will see Sharples School going from strength to strength as it serves its diverse community.

“’Preparing for success’ is our school motto and this is now incorporated in our badge and sends out a strong, aspirational message to all our stakeholders.”

The stars are from the original Sharples heraldry; the hills represent the ‘sharp hills’ from which the Sharples name originates and the crown is also taken from the existing badge where it formed part of the original Bolton symbol of an arrow and bolt.

Pupils said they like the “modern look” and the colours.
