Ms Webster’s End Of Year Letter Summer 2024

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am writing to inform you of the arrangements for the end of term.

From Monday, 15 to Thursday, 18 July lessons will be as normal. Please ensure your child attends school on time every day this week for a prompt start to registration at 8.45am. Friday, 19 July will be a non-uniform day for students, there is no charge for this. Students will be dismissed from school at 12.05pm and the school buses will be available at this earlier time. There will be an extended canteen service available at break time for all students. Those entitled to the Free School Meal allowance will be able to access it at break time.

During the last weeks of the academic year, we celebrate our achievements and showcase our learning community. We enjoyed our Year 11 Prom at the Last Drop Hotel and we also staged a very successful Summer Music Evening. Beyond that we have our Sports Day, our Rewards Trip to Blackpool Pleasure Beach as well as numerous curriculum visits to enhance our students’ cultural capital. In the final week of term, we will also host our Achievement Assemblies when we celebrate the academic successes of our students.

As you may already know, I am retiring at the end of this academic year. Working at Sharples for over 30 years has been an absolute privilege, the memories I have of the school will stay with me for many years to come. Together, as a community we have achieved many great things. Our students have achieved incredible examination results year after year and we have won a prestigious national award for ‘Secondary School of the Year’. More importantly we have built an amazing school community that prepares students exceptionally well for the exciting opportunities they will experience when they leave Sharples.

I know that from September under the leadership of Miss Molyneux Sharples will continue to flourish and live by its motto, ‘Learn. Dream. Achieve.’ When I do leave school for the last time at the end of this academic year, I know that I will also always keep an eye open for news about Sharples and will celebrate every future success with you. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support throughout my time at Sharples, I will always appreciate it and never forget it. I wish you and your family and the wider community all the very best for the future.

Finally, I would like to remind you of the following key dates:

  • Year 7 students will start on Tuesday 3, September, they should arrive no later than 8.40am to ensure a prompt start to the school day at 8.45am
  • All other year groups (Y8-Y11) will return on Wednesday 4, September, they should arrive no later than 8.40am to ensure a prompt start to the school day at 8.45am

I hope you have a safe and restful summer.

Yours sincerely

Ms A Webster (Headteacher)
