Ms Molyneux’s Start Of Term Letter

By 8 November 2024No Comments

Dear Parent/Carer,

Welcome back to a new half term and I hope you have had a good break.

Over the holiday, I joined 10 members of staff who took 95 of our Year 11 students to spend 6 days in Barcelona, Spain. We enjoyed cultural visits alongside morning revision sessions for English, maths and science GCSEs.  The students were a pleasure to take on the trip and represented Sharples exceptionally at all times.

This week has seen the appointment of our new Year 7 Student Affairs Committee representatives after a competitive application and interview process. Over 60 students applied for the position and ten were selected to receive their purple ties.

We also hosted BBC Radio Manchester and BBC North West Tonight in our swimming pool, as the presenters and special guests swam 1000 miles for Children In Need. Paralympian Gold Medallist swimmer Grace Harvey was amongst the guests and she met with students after the swim, to take part in a Q and A session about her achievements. It was absolutely inspirational for our students to hear her story.

On Wednesday this week we held our first Parent Forum.  We were joined by families of students from across all year groups at Sharples, to give their views on key themes that we are aiming to improve. This term we focused on home-school communication and home learning. There was good constructive feedback and new ideas that we will look to implement, with an update at the next Parent Forum in the Spring. All parents and carers are welcome at the events and we will announce the next date in the new year.

I also want to update families on our charity work this year so far. World Mental Health Day in October saw us raise over £500 for the charity Young Minds, and just before the break, our annual Diversity Day celebrations were once again record breaking, with over £2000 raised for Oxfam.

Over the coming days, our Year 11 students will sit their first round of mock examinations for their GCSEs and they have been preparing well. We wish them all the best for next week.

We have a busy half term coming up with lots of events and opportunities for our students and their families to get involved with. These include our Winter Concert and our first ever Christmas Markets evening.  We would love to see as many families as possible coming along to support.

Yours sincerely
