Ms Molyneux’s Letter Regarding the First Week

By 11 September 2024No Comments

Dear Parent/Carer,

We have enjoyed a positive return to the new school year, and it has been great to see our students back with us after the 6-week break.

It has been a busy start to the term, as we welcomed 240 new Year 7 students to receive their Sharples ties and join the family. This week sees them take part in “Freshers Week” with a taste of all the clubs and activities on offer to them, as well as the Freshers Disco this Thursday organised by the Year 11 Gold Ties.

The students have been enjoying our new and improved facilities, with the netball courts full of enthusiastic recruits at this week’s team trials, and our new double classroom has arrived at the back of the school and is due to open for use next week.

We are trialling a new One-Way System on our corridors this year, in order to alleviate congestion during lesson changeover. So far this has been a positive addition to the school day, and has afforded calmer movement about the building.

This year we are aiming to improve our communication and connection to our parents and carers at Sharples. Miss Curzon will be relaunching our PTA, The Sharples Association, with the aim of galvanising your support with events and fundraising for the school.

We will also be launching a Parent Forum, which will allow parents to give their views on a wide range of subjects that affect your child and their experience with us. The first meeting will be later this term and full details will be released shortly.

This week will see the launch of our brand-new student magazine, “The Sharples Spotlight”. This will be written monthly and sent out to all students via their school email and to parents/carers who are on our mailing list. It will feature articles written by students from all year groups and is an exciting addition to our school.

Finally, on Thursday 26th September, we open our doors to prospective families for our Open Evening 2024, and school will end at 14.25 on this day, although many students will be volunteering at the event. The school buses have been rearranged to take account of the early finish. Friday 27th September is a Training Day for staff and therefore a non-school day for students.

Yours sincerely
