Launching the Year of Engineering

On Monday 15th January, 20 of our Year 7 pupils were invited to take part in the REMAP Engineering Design Competition in which pupils were asked to design equipment to help those with disabilities. Hosted by the Design Technology department and Rotary Club, pupils had to present their ideas in a Dragon’s Den style challenge with the dragons eventually choosing a winning team.

The competition coincided with the launch of the Year of Engineering, and a visit by MP Stephen Metcalfe made the competition even more special for our Year 7 pupils. Each pupil had the unique opportunity to speak to Stephen Metcalfe and specialist engineers to refine their ideas and make them feasible for real-world application.

The competition was a huge success with all participating pupils receiving a certificate from REMAP, and the winning team receiving a prize.

Well done to all pupils who took part.
