This has been another excellent year for Sharples’ GCSE students. We are delighted with our results as they are a testimony to the hard work and effort of our staff and students. Sharples has stepped up to the challenge at a time of rapid educational change and increased rigour at GCSE level. The 2017 results continue our positive trend of year on year improvement.
Achievement in the core subjects was very impressive with 71% of our students achieving 9–4 in Maths and 79% in English; 67% achieved 9-4 in both subjects. We are incredibly proud that Sharples students managed to achieve the elusive Grade 9 in each of the core disciplines.
The level of performance by the other subjects right across the curriculum has been very strong with a marked increase in the number of pupils achieving A*/A grades
While the overall performance of our Year 11 cohort has been very positive, some individual successes are especially noteworthy. Our top three performing students are Aiman Ibrahim (10 A*/A equivalent), Tia Cullen (7 A*/A equivalent) and Azeem Diveli (7 A*/A equivalent) who have achieved outstanding grades across all of their subject areas. We are incredibly proud of these students as we know how much hard work has been done by them to achieve such excellent outcomes.
We are delighted that our long established tradition of scientific excellence continues with another first-class set of science outcomes. This year our first GCSE Astronomy cohort which included a number of Year 7 and 8 students achieved positive results. They made full use of our excellent science facilities including our observatory to support their studies throughout this challenging course.
On a final note we are proud of the very large number of our students who have met or exceeded the targets that have been set for them. Achieving these targets takes much hard work and commitment from our staff and students and we are consequently delighted to see so many achieving the grades that allow them to move on to the next phase of their education successfully.
We wish all of our students ongoing success. They leave with our grateful thanks for their excellent contribution to the life of our school over the last five years.
