Headteacher's Welcome

Dear Parent/Carer,
It gives me great pleasure to introduce myself and welcome you to our school website. My name is Ann Webster and I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Sharples School. I consider it a privilege to be a part of such a vibrant learning community and I look forward to seeing Sharples build upon its excellent reputation year on year.

Our school motto is ‘Learn Dream Achieve’. We encourage all pupils to work hard and to aim high in order to achieve academic success and fulfil their dreams for a rewarding future career. Our main aim is to provide first class learning and teaching opportunities every day to ensure that all of our students make significant progress from their individual starting points.

At Sharples, we demonstrate a daily commitment to our ‘high expectations and no excuses’ culture as we prepare our young people for the challenges of a rapidly changing world. We promote the values of resilience and hard work which has ensured that standards have risen and continue to rise every year. In 2017 Sharples’ GCSE results were above national standard across all key accountability measures and we were the second highest school for the Progress 8 measure in Bolton.

We recognise that pupils have different abilities, needs and interests and we provide a broad and flexible curriculum. Staff are qualified and experienced in ensuring that pupils achieve their full potential regardless of their starting points. Close links with other educational providers including Work Based Learning providers in Bolton ensure that all our pupils have the opportunities to learn subjects and skills appropriate to their interests and ability. We offer a wide range of GCSE choices including Engineering, Astronomy, Computer Science, separate sciences and many more.

Sharples School is a caring community that caters for pupils regardless of background, gender or beliefs. Through our charter of ‘Courtesy, Co-operation, Consideration and Common sense’ we aim to engender tolerance and respect for self and others, so that pupils leave us well equipped to play a positive and constructive role in society. All pupils are encouraged to take responsibility for their own learning and conduct. Discipline in the school is firm and fair to ensure an orderly and effective learning atmosphere. In return we expect high standards of work, behaviour and uniform. We take pride in the positive partnership we have with parents and carers. We believe that by home and school working together we can provide the very best opportunities for all our students and bring out the best in your child, both academically and socially.

Ms Ann Webster
Headteacher.
