To celebrate national Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) week, in the Design and Technology department, the pupils designed and built balloon-powered cars to better understand the scientific concepts related to rocket propulsion. They used concepts and theories concerning mass and force to work out ways in which the distance traveled by the car could be improved. The cars were designed, built and tested by the pupils. The event concluded with a competition between all of the designs to see which went furthest. Sharples Year 9 pupils George Guilfoyle and Aadil Nasar designed the winning car, which went the furthest by a mile (quite literally!).
More from Sharples’ STEM week to follow next week!
