Friday saw the annual ‘11-a-side Staff versus Year 11’ football match take place. Mr Milnes was hoping to finish his Sharples career in style with one last win, unfortunately this wasn't to be the case.

The Staff team couldn't have hoped for a better start as Mr Baldwin chipped the ball over the Year 11 goalkeeper, Tom Crompton, to take the lead after just 2 minutes of play. Mr Werner doubled the lead a few minutes later with a fantastic strike that went in to the bottom corner of the netl from the edge of the box.

The Staff team were on the front foot and Mr Milnes had a great opportunity to put the game to bed but fired wide. This was to prove costly as Connor Elliott scored a superb solo goal, shooting from a tight angle with his left foot. This gave Sharples Year 11 a much needed confidence boost and they finished the half well. Connor scored another well deserved goal, equalising the scoreline just before the halftime whistle.

Staff fitness levels began to drop in the second half and despite some excellent last ditch defending from Mr Walsh and Mr Myerscough, the Staff team couldn't prevent Year 11 taking the lead. The Staff team pressed for an equaliser but couldn't create an opportunity. Year 11 sealed the win by scoring with the last kick of the game.

It was a disappointment for the Staff team, a rare defeat made even rarer due to Mr Gethin not scoring. Year 11 showed real character to come back into the game and deserved the win on the strength of their second half performance.
