Year 8 were the first team in action this week but had a depleted squad and struggled against an excellent Thornleigh outfit. Lewis Fletcher had an impressive debut and Sam Fullarton looked solid at the back.

The following day, Year 7 competed in a 3 team 7 a-side tournament at Thornleigh and recorded some impressive wins against both Thornleigh and Essa teams. Charlie was ‘Man of the Match’ in defence, Hasan Mitha scored (from the halfway line) and Hayden and Bevan scored their first goals for school.

Year 9 continued their impressive season with a 5-3 win against Westhoughton. Sharples started slowly and soon found themselves 3-1 down, and with 10 men, after Jake Spencer Rigg produced a spectacular save on the goal line despite not being in net. This kick started the team into action and they, instead of capitulating, showed excellent resilience to win the game 5-3. Gill Nogueria scored his second successive hat trick – let’s hope he can make it a hat trick of hat tricks next week in the cup semi final against Canon Slade on Tuesday.

It has been a successful week for our KS4 GCSE and BTEC students. On Tuesday, Year 11 pupils completed their controlled assessments and all students did themselves proud with everyone achieving their predicted grades. Some students even exceeded expectations on the day. BTEC students, in Year 10, received their results from their exam this week and were very pleased with the outcomes. A special congratulations to Mia Ellis, Khadija Patel and Chloe Adamson who all achieved a distinction in their exam.

Well done to the girls who played in Tuesday night’s netball tournament (pictured). Whilst at Bolton School, the girls played six games in total against schools from all over the town. The girls played well and managed to beat both Ladybridge and Westhoughton. However, they were beaten by the other schools which meant we were out of the competition in the first round. Jennifer Brown was awarded ‘Players Player’ so an extra well done goes to her.
