This week, Year 7 looked to bounce back from their previous defeat to Little Lever in what was their first home game of the season against Westhoughton. Sharples were slow out of the starting blocks and fell behind early on. The goal appeared to kick-start the team into action and Sam Fullarton and Matthew Senior both had close chances to score. Sharples’ hard work paid off when AJ broke past the defence and slotted past the keeper. It was a close game however just when it looked like it was going to be a draw, Westhoughton snatched all three points with the last kick of the game! It resulted in an unfair loss yet the ever-optimistic team have taken a lot from this defeat.

On the same night, Years 8 & 9 travelled to Westhoughton. With a somewhat depleted squad, Year 9 struggled to contain control against a very strong and powerful Westhoughton side.  Sean Moran put in a superb debut performance in defence and looks like he will be a great addition to the squad.  Having more success, Year 8 secured their first win of the season with a convincing 3-1 win.  It was a much improved performance with Scott Knowles scoring the goal of the game.

Up next week is Mount St Joseph's in what should make for four even and closely contested games.

The school would like to wish Year 11 student, Chris Flynn, good luck as he represents England HI golf team against Scotland in Troon this weekend.
