Sharples opened the badminton season with an away trip to Mount St Joseph’s. With most of the team from last year on Year 11, it was younger, fresh team. Despite facing much older opposition, both the 'A' and 'B' team gave good accounts of themselves and managed to win a number of games. Indeed, it looked like the 'B' team were going to win the fixture until Mount finished strongly. The best performing pair were the youngest partnership, Matthew Senior and Tyler Jones. New pupil Marcus Jackson also impressed on his debut, working well with partner Jack Banks.
The Year 7 football team were back in action, playing Essa under their floodlights. The Year 7 squad was split into two teams and played the opposition in two games. Overall, Sharples won one game, drew two and lost one, just edging the fixture on goal difference. George Edmonds and Will Scarburgh finished as top scorers. It was excellent to see some new debutants adding to an ever increasing squad.
Next week will see Year 8 take on Essa at football, whilst the badminton and basketball team will also be in action.
