Netball Update

By 20 October 2016No Comments

Wednesday night saw Mount St Joseph’s travel to Sharples to play our Year 7, 8 and 9 netballs teams. Before the teams arrived, we received some fantastic news: we were top of the league…in all year groups!  This gave us real motivation to play our best and beat the opposition. Year 7 started off well and were one goal ahead of Mount St Joseph’s at half time.  A thank you has to go to Mr Heyes, who was watching the match, he gave the girls a team talk and they ended up winning 7-4. The ‘player of the match’ was Lauren Heyes. No such team talk was needed for the Year 8s because, at halftime, they were already 4-0 up.  During the second half, they conceded just one goal and scored another 3 – making the final score 7-1. Seven must be our lucky number! Well done to Crystal Sandiford who played for the Year 8 team, she received ‘player of the match’…again!  The Year 9 team played well with the addition of Lois Robinson.  Lois Robinson, who was a formidable member of defence, is currently in Y8.  She played alongside Courtney Adamson. Although we had a lot of possession in our attacking half, we found it difficult to score. At halftime, we were 2-1 down. After a couple of changes, we went back out wanting a win. Unfortunately, the game finished 4-4. ‘Player of the match’ went to Lois Robinson, again someone who was playing for the year above. All in all, it was a fantastic night of netball – well done, girls!  After half term, we play Mount St Joseph’s.  We need to ensure that we keep up this momentum and smash it!

The Year 10 netball team took part in the Town Netball Tournament after school on Thursday. After a difficult first match against Bolton School, the team went from strength to strength with their best performance in their final match.  The team secured a win against Mount St Joseph’s.  The match end 5-2 (to Sharples) at the final whistle.  The team consisted of Demi Green, Mia Ellis, Lauren Edmonds, Hannah Abernethy, Lucy Smith, Georgia Crompton and Emily Jones.
