This week the Year 10 netball team had their annual tournament at Bolton School. Unfortunately a few members of the team were unable to play due to other commitments so some Year 9 pupils stepped in to ensure they could attend the competition. The first game in the preliminary round was against Bolton School. The girls knew this would be a tough game as traditionally Bolton School have always won the tournament. Unperturbed, the girls put up a good fight but unfortunately lost the game. We felt better about our next competitors, Smithills, and managed to comfortably beat them with some great goals from Megan Heyes and Olivia Doxsey. Our final game of the round was against Thornleigh. Again, we put up a good fight but narrowly lost the game 5-3. At that point the competition had ended for us and we went home and yes - Bolton School did go on to win the competition overall!
On Wednesday, Ladybridge traveled to Sharples to play netball against our Year 7-10 teams. With Miss Gawne not in school on Wednesdays, Miss Southern and Mrs Clarke kindly stepped in to help out Miss Paradine so the fixture could go ahead. As this was our first fixture back since October, the girls found it difficult to get back to playing as a team, however there were some great examples of team play from all the year groups and lots to build upon in training next week. Year 10 won their game against Ladybridge but unfortunately the other teams lost, but only by a couple of goals. Next week Year 9 have their tournament at Bolton School and the Year 7 and 8 team will be playing Mount St. Josephs on Wednesday (away). Well done to all the girls who have participated in a match or an extracurricular club this week - keep up the hard work.
