It looked like it was going to be an incredibly busy week for our football teams here at Sharples School, that was until Harper Green had to cancel the majority of planned fixtures and unfortunately even the Year 11 cup game had to be postponed.

In preparation for the big games Sharples held two training matches on Monday with Year 7 playing Year 8 and Year 9 playing Year 10. In both matches, the extra year’s experience shone through and both games were excellent preparation and practise for the games ahead.

Year 8 were the only team that managed to play this week and they will be glad it wasn't postponed. The season keeps going from strength to strength for the squad who once again turned out in large numbers. The first half was a real battle and Sharples were slow out of the starting blocks. Tyler Jones and Jack Banks were excellent in defence. Against the run of play, Jake Spencer-Rigg dispossessed the opposition and raced through to fire past the keeper and put Sharples into the lead. The lead wasn't to last long though, as Sharples conceded a needless penalty to bring the score level just before half time.

In the second half, Sharples utilised their big squad and brought on a number of substitutes. It was Cole Isherwood that stole the show, with two great strikes to put Sharples two goals ahead, although the second looked like it might had been across but we'll give him the benefit of doubt. With three minutes to go, Sharples conceded another goal as Harper Green refused to give up. Fortunately, Sharples were able to hold out and gained a much-deserved three points after another excellent team performance.
