This week the boys played their last football game of the 2014/15 season. Sharples were scheduled to play Thornleigh in a local derby. Only Year 7 and 10 were in action, with both teams looking to finish the season on a high.

Year 7 set out to be defensively strong with the new centre back pairing of Tommy Banks and Tyler Jones. Both were outstanding in defence, as were the rest of the team. Sharples were unlucky to be a goal behind at halftime following a great battling performance. In the second half, the team began to tire and despite outstanding efforts of Tom Stanway in goal, couldn't prevent Thornleigh from scoring 3 quality goals from outside the box.

Unfortunately, Year 10 suffered a heavy defeat to a talented Thornleigh team. A depleted squad didn't help but the team must look to show more mental strength in future games that present a similar challenge.

All students have been completing the multistage fitness test for the last time this academic year to assess their cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. Scores are then compared to national data and pupils are asked to reflect on their lifestyle and come up with some action points as to how they can improve.

All pupils tried their best and deserve congratulations, with special recognition going to a handful of students. Jack Banks continued to be the top performer in Year 7 whilst Umair Alli (Year 9) and Zain Essa (Year 10) have managed to achieve the highest scores in their year and the school. Hopefully, all pupils will continue to develop their fitness levels through engaging in a healthy lifestyle.

Next week sees the start of the cricket, rounders and athletics season. Hopefully, the sun will continue to shine for what should be an excellent term of sport.
