On Thursday evening, the previous Year 11 class of Sharples School gathered for one final time to celebrate their excellent GCSE results. The class of 2014 congregated at Memory Lane Function Hall in Bolton along with friends, family, governors and teachers.
Special awards were presented to a number of the talented pupils. Sharples’ teachers nominated a pupil for each subject specialism to receive an award for exceptional performance. Ian Littlewood, of Bolton College, awarded Yaseen Valli with the Vocational Achievement Award. Huzaifa Patel received the Leigh-Bramwell Trust Award for Academic Excellence in Maths and Kelly Eccleshare received the trust’s award for Academic Excellence in English. Bolton Sixth Form College gave its Academic Progress Award to Eleanor Jackson. The final award presented by Sharples for overall academic excellence went to the extremely gifted Huzaifa Patel.
The guest of honour, ex-Sharples pupil Craig Pilling, presented the year group with their GCSE certificates. At the end of the evening, the 2014 Commonwealth medallist delivered a truly outstanding speech, outlining his journey during and after attending Sharples. He left everyone who attended with inspirational messages about always giving 100% effort in everything you do and never giving up on your dreams.
