On Sunday 7th December hundreds of local people gathered at the St Andrew Lane Park to see the Astley Bridge Christmas Lights Switch-on!
The Sharples School Samba Band and Choir were there to entertain the crowds with Christmas carols as well as choirs from our local primary schools, St Paul’s, High Lawn, The Oaks and Sharples Primary.
The Sharples Science Ambassadors set up their stall showing the young children minibeasts using microscopes, how to make an edible reflex action and of course the "Adaptations Game" where visitors had to work out the special features of our ambassadors dressed up as animals!
Sarah Cox from the Society of Biology travelled up from London to see the work of the ambassadors and the interactive Biology experiments that they shared with youngsters from the community. Our final thank you goes to the Society for supporting our Science Shows this year.
The Friends of Astley Bridge Society kindly provided hot vimto and mince pies for everyone and it was a truly festive occasion with many Sharples students coming along to make the event a success. Many thanks to Hilary Fairclough and Christine Wild from the Sharples governing body who organised the event and of course a huge thank-you to all the Sharples students for getting involved!
