This week, some of our Year 9 and 10 pupils have spent five days with the Royal Army on a residential camp. Altcar Training Camp, in Southport, is one of the UK’s premier facilities for small arms marksmanship training. The site is used extensively by Regular, Reserve and Cadet units from all three services for military and civilian activities and training. The boys had an action packed itinerary including: completion of the assault course; first aid training; night exercises; attacking manoeuvres and many more practical and theoretical sessions. The pupils that took part had the opportunity to experience life in the army first hand. On top of the daily sessions, pupils were subject to kit and block inspections and expected to clear up after mealtimes. Although the camp was physically challenging and tiring at times, the pupils thoroughly enjoyed themselves with several pupils requesting to go back next week!
